We delved into learning about the life cycle of flowering plants, starting with the Seed Stage.
The Diamond Dragons have been collecting and examining seeds all week. We’ve been finding them at school in our lunches and snacks, and all over the school grounds. We’ve been bringing them in from our cupboards and dinner plates at home, and our backyards. We never have too many. When we find a new one, we add it to our wall collection. When we find more of the same, we label a dish and put them on the table to explore. After our initial investigating, we dissected a large lima bean seed to see what was inside. We were in awe of the eency weency baby plant that we could see in there. The children were eager to look inside all the other seeds we’ve been collecting. Do they all have baby plants inside–even a poppy seed. So far, the ones they’ve been able to open and see with a magnifier, do indeed have a baby inside. After learning what the seed needs to “wake up” and start growing, we decided to sprout them and see it for ourselves. Ask you child to tell you about this. On Thursday we each planted 4 different seeds in soil. We watered them to wake them up, put them in the sun, and are eager to see what Monday will bring!
